Demolition of the old teachers’ building
LOCATION: Bonaire, Camp de Mart, Onofre Cerveró and Sant Martí de Lleida streets
YEAR: 2017
It is a building for educational use (at the beginning) and its construction dates back to 1962, according to cadastral data. The building has a built area of approximately 7,183 m² on a plot of approximately 5,225 m². The building, with no architectural value, is L-shaped and is located between Bonaire, Camp de Mart, Onofre Cerveró and Sant Martí streets, in the historical centre of Lleida.
There are no buildings adjacent to the building to be demolished, this is the only construction on the island that makes up the site, the rest of it is occupied by an open-air car park and a perimeter fence.
As for the distribution, this teaching complex had four spaces of more than 1,000 m² each dedicated to teaching. It had two spaces of almost 300 m² (between them) dedicated to shows, two more spaces of about 80 m² each dedicated to storage and finally it had a sports space of approximately 800 m². In the empty space between Bonaire Street and the building there was currently a private parking lot.
The building has been abandoned for more than 23 years, exactly since 1993 when it was detected that the building was suffering from aluminosis.
The building’s construction typology is based on a vertical structure of concrete pillars, concrete beam slabs with coffers and a sheet metal roof.
